Illinois River Road: Route of the Voyagers Scenic Byway unifies and connects a number of different geological regions, natural areas, plant communities, and wildlife habitats unique to the Illinois River Valley. The route provides an opportunity to view and study many of Illinois' native animals, trees and shrubs, and grasses in a relatively undisturbed setting. In addition to this special natural heritage, the area also has a rich cultural heritage including Native American settlements and French trading centers that were established because of the natural resources of the region.
