NEW!! The Havana Loop guide is now available online. Click here to view the loop. Color schemes for each of the six remaining loops are also available. Click here to view the prototype covers for all seven loops in their different design colors. Note: To promote a unified trail, all loops will follow a similar layout and style. For the initial prototypes, the pictures for each loop are the same. Actual loop covers will have varying pictures that relate specifically to that loop. Please email comments, suggestions and corrections to carolt@fermatainc.com. Currently, sites in all 10 counties have been visited, assessed, and recommended for inclusion on the trail. Click the following link to view the loops as they are added to the Illinois River Country Nature Trail.
Background When complete, the new Illinois River Country Nature Trail will unify and connect 100+ nature-based destinations in the Illinois River Valley. These sites will be great places where visitors, and residents alike, can go to discover the nature of the region. This unique project will include sites on public and private land in Bureau, Fulton, La Salle, Marshall, Mason, Peoria, Putnam, Stark, Tazewell, and Woodford counties. The Peoria Area Convention and Visitors Bureau is leading the Illinois River Country Nature Trail project. PACVB contracted with FERMATA, Inc. to complete this $50,000 development project. FERMATA's work includes site inventory and assessment, and preparation of a guide for nature-tourism opportunities in the 10-county region. PACVB obtained a $25,000 grant from the State of Illinois Bureau of Tourism to help get this project started. The $25,000 match to this funding is coming from various sources including communities who wish to be named as "gateway" communities along the Trail.
